Regional Freight Outlook Update: Freight Infrastructure Investment Plan
The latest report out of the Regional Freight Outlook (RFO) details the region's transportation infrastructure by freight mode and makes recommendations for an overall set of freight related transportation priorities for the region. Key findings include:
- Institutionalize freight in the transportation process to elevate its importance in project prioritization
- Foster public/private partnerships to build support for freight-based initiatives
- Study corridors of national significance to identify freight-specific projects
- Increase data collection efforts to track freight performance
- Seek a balance between the land use and transportation relationships with freight development
KC SmartPort is using these recommendations to develop a more targeted logistics attraction effort and marketing campaign. For questions or comments related to the RFO, please contact Chris Gutierrez.

"Distributing the Benefits," Midwest Commercial Journal
Distribution centers bring significant financial benefit to the KC region through tax revenue, land use, job creation and community wealth. Pete Fullerton, executive director of the Platte County, Missouri Economic Development Council recently wrote an article for Midwest Commercial Journal highlighting how recent attraction successes like Pure Fishing and AmerisourceBergen, have specifically benefitted Platte County.
"As the Kansas City region continues to build on its legacy as the crossroads of America, distribution and logistics firms ... will continue to locate major facilities here. As they do, the jobs they create ... will significantly benefit the communities and the region as a whole."
